Notification to let you know that a tower crane is being removed from the 61 Molesworth Street building site over the coming weekend, meaning there’ll be some road closures in the area to allow for its safe transport.
Molesworth Street from Hill Street to Hawkestone Street and a section of Pipitea Street will be closed to vehicles at all times during works from 1-4 August, and closed to pedestrians from 6.30am-6pm.
This work commences 6AM Friday 1 Aug, with things returning to normal around 9PM on Monday, 4 Aug. (Tuesday will be back to business as usual).
Background
- Lt McGuiness is removing the tower crane at 61 Molesworth St as it is no longer needed for construction.
- This requires a full road closure of Molesworth St and surrounding arterial roads for the sectional removal of the tower crane using another two cranes.
- Heavy haulage truck trailer units will carry the sections of the crane back out of the area and onto Aotea Quay. Works will be done during the day, and the site will be maintained during the evening, but no cranes will operate at night.
- The following weekend has been set aside as the contingency if the weather (wind) means it can’t be done on the planned weekend.
- During the road closure cyclists will need to get off their bikes and follow pedestrian detours.
- Bus users will need to check www.metlink.co.nz for diversions and changes to bus routes.
IMPACT ON BUSES
Stop 5112 beside the Cathedral will be closed 5am Friday 1 August, to 10pm Monday 4 August. Buses will detour around the closed segment of Molesworth St by travelling up Hill St, then along Tinakori Rd to Hawkestone St in order to rejoin Molesworth St.
