Supporting Each Other in a Disaster

In a major emergency, emergency services may be delayed or overwhelmed. That’s why our community has prepared resources to help us respond together; quickly, safely, and locally.

This guide introduces two key tools developed with the Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO):

What You’ll Need

1. Community Emergency Hub Guide
2. Thorndon & Pipitea Community Response Plan

These resources help us organise, share information, and support one another during and after a disaster.

Our Emergency Hub Location

Thorndon School Hall is our designated Community Emergency Hub.

If a disaster strikes, this is where we gather to:

  • Share updates and information
  • Offer and request help
  • Coordinate local response efforts

A printed copy of the Hub Guide is stored in the Hub Kit at Thorndon School. The kit also includes Role lanyards, Stationery, Local map, AM/FM radio and a VHF radio.
