KiwiRail has leased a new ferry – the Valentine – to provide extra capacity to the Interislander service over the busy peak summer/Christmas period until the Kaiarahi is back in service, next year.
The Valentine is due to arrive in mid-December and is expected to go into full operation across the Cook Strait in late December, after staff training has taken place.
As the Valentine is configured differently to our existing ferries we need to do some work – including some small-scale piling work – to widen and strengthen the existing Interislander linkspan.
Preliminary work started on 15 November and is expected to end on the 24 December.
Piling work expected between the 24 November and 3 December 2021.
Hours of work will be within a 24-hour period to cope with tides and ferry timetable.
Piling works will be between 7.30 am & 6.00 pm. Monday to Saturday inclusive.
If any issues arise, please contact 0800 801 070 extension 43042.
