Te Ahumairangi Hill was formerly known and recorded as Tinakori Hill (that wasn’t an official name). The Town Belt landmark dominates and delineates the western flank of Thorndon. Topographic map 260-R27, R28 & Pt.Q27 -Wellington, records the highest point as 303m above sea level. From the beaconed trig station named ‘Upper Witako No 2’ the hill extends northeasterly and parallel to Tinakori Road for approximately 1km.

So … thanks to the NZ Geographic Board we’re not hiking up the Tinakori Hill any longer … it’s official, we’re off to Te Ahumairangi Hill.
