Community Facilities Action
Group
(Chairperson
- Jo Freeman)
The
Community Facilities Action Group is currently working on three issues
namely:
1. Bringing
more community activities, classes and events to Thorndon.
The Group is currently undertaking a stock-take of venues within
Thorndon and their availability for use by Community Groups.
It then intends to seek funding from WCC for a community
facilitator and to reduce the rent for these premises to encourage more
community activities to use them;
2. Working
with the WCC to make improvements to the Thorndon Pool to ensure it is
more family friendly including making platforms available for younger
children at the shallow end, introducing a youth swimming squad for
local children and investigating the possibility of building a
toddler’s pool on the bbq area. As
a result of lobbying by TRA committee members, Thorndon Pool’s
management have agreed to provide, as an interim measure, two small
steps for younger children to stand on and swim between in the shallow
end on request by parents. Please
ask the Thorndon Pool staff if you would like to use these steps as they
will not be left in the pool at all times.
3. Improvements
to Katherine Mansfield Playground, including installing a park bench,
water fountain and more play equipment.

issues.
